I've been building things my whole life. A few years ago I started pulling in parish data across the country — just to see what was out there. What I found surprised me. Saturday at 3 PM has a near-monopoly on confession. Midnight Mass is quietly going extinct. The average homily runs nearly triple what the Pope suggests. I wondered if anyone was looking at the Church this way. I realized that if the data was this messy for a researcher, it was likely impossible for a seeker.
I'm a Catholic convert. I came in through OCIA, and my director gave me a tip: if you want to go to Confession without the awkwardness of your own parish, go to a different one. That stuck with me. When AI came along, I realized my powers multiplied — and what's more important than helping people keep showing up to Confession? I started volunteering with an existing directory site and saw how hard the problem really is. The volunteers doing this work are incredible, but there's just too much to keep up with manually.
