The Diocese of Omaha was established in 1885 and elevated to an archdiocese by Pope Pius XII on August 4, 1945. It covers 23 counties across northeast Nebraska and includes around 146 parishes. The mother church is the Cathedral of Saint Cecilia in Omaha, consecrated in 1959. Fr. Edward Flanagan, who founded Boys Town in 1917, was a priest of this archdiocese.
