The Diocese of Camden covers six counties in southern New Jersey β Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem β spanning roughly 2,700 square miles. It was erected on December 9, 1937, when Pope Pius XI separated it from the Diocese of Trenton, with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden as its seat. The diocese traces Catholic roots in the region to 1743, when the first recorded Mass was celebrated in a glass factory in Salem County. Today it comprises 108 parishes.
