The Diocese of Dallas was erected in 1890 by Pope Leo XIII, carved from the Diocese of Galveston to serve northern Texas. Its current territory covers 9 counties including Dallas, Collin, and Rockwall. The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, dedicated in 1902, serves as the diocesan seat. The diocese took its present boundaries in 1969 when Fort Worth became a separate diocese.
