The Diocese of Honolulu was erected in 1941 from the Vicariate Apostolic of the Hawaiian Islands and covers the six main Hawaiian islands and Johnston Atoll. Its cathedral, Our Lady of Peace in downtown Honolulu β dedicated in 1843 and built from coral blocks β is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continuous use in the United States. Saints Damien de Veuster and Marianne Cope, both canonized for their ministry to leprosy patients at Molokai, are deeply associated with this diocese.
