The Diocese of Lake Charles was established on January 29, 1980, carved out of the Diocese of Lafayette to serve southwestern Louisiana. It covers five civil parishes β Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis β with 43 parishes total. Its cathedral, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles, traces its roots to 1869, when the first Catholic parish in the area was organized.
