The Diocese of Little Rock was erected in 1843 by Pope Gregory XVI, making it one of the older dioceses in the South. It is the only Catholic diocese in Arkansas, covering the entire state — 53,000 square miles. Its cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock, was first consecrated in 1846. The diocese serves around 135 parishes.
