The Diocese of Pittsburgh was erected in 1843, carved out of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, covering six counties in southwestern Pennsylvania: Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington. Its cathedral, Saint Paul Cathedral in the Oakland neighborhood, is a Gothic Revival church dedicated in 1906. Saint Anthony Chapel in the Troy Hill neighborhood holds the largest collection of Catholic relics in the United States, with over 5,000 items. The diocese serves around 178 parishes.
