The Diocese of Spokane was erected on December 17, 1913, carved from the Diocese of Seattle to serve eastern Washington. It spans 13 counties from the Cascades to the Idaho border and includes 82 parishes. Its cathedral, Our Lady of Lourdes in Spokane, stands on the site of the city's oldest Catholic church, founded by Jesuit missionary Fr. Joseph Cataldo in 1881.
